Her husband Abraham and her brother Sam embarked on June 27, 1913 and arrived in Quebec City on July 13, 1913. | It’s quite possible that a desire to avoid conscription of the young men in the family motivated the emigration of the Bakalinsky family. Sam Bakalinsky was 18 years old, army age, when he became the first Bakalinsky son to emigrate. | Sam and Abraham crossed the border of the Russian Empire in June, 1913 at Myslowice in present-day Poland. They continued on to either Bremen or Hamburg where they boarded the SS Wittekind. They disembarked in Quebec City after a long 16 day Atlantic crossing.![]() |
