Raful Kudinsky

The Raful Branch

WhoWhen they left and arrivedWhyWhere? What was their journey? Ship and arrival port?
Raful & Chaia Bluma and their daughter Bessie.

Departed from Southampton on Dec. 6, 1928.
Arrived at Halifax on Dec. 15, 1928.

Raful’s descendents know very little about their life in Belilovka. Bessie once told her granddaughter that she had to hide under the bed during pogroms but said little else. Bessie was the only child of Raful and Chaia Bluma. Bessie was actually adopted by them in the old country and spoke very little about her life before coming to Canada. It is unknown what happened to her biological parents and family but it is believed that she was actually related to Raful and Chaya Bluma Kudinsky in some way when they adopted her.

The family travelled to Southampton and embarked on the SS Aurania. The Atlantic crossing took 9 days.

Pesach Tabachnick
(married Bessie Coodin)

Departed from Southampton on Apr. 3, 1926.
Arrived at St. John, N.B. on Apr. 13, 1926.

It is unknown why Pesach came to Canada by himself as a teenage orphan. We do not know of any other relatives Pesach may have had in the old country. Immigration records show Pesach came to Canada to stay with his uncle, Berle Kreger who happened to be married to Chaykeh Coodin. Pesach later married Berel and Chaykeh Kreger’s niece, Bessie Coodin in Winnipeg.

Pesach made his way to Southampton where he boarded the SS Melita. The ship arrived at St. John, N.B. 10 days later.
